How long can I check out an item?

Check out periods at the Coastal Carolina Community College Library are based around your status as either a Student, Non-student, or Faculty/Staff member.

Students

Resource Loan Period Renewals Notes

  • Up to two volumes at a time for a fiction series.
  • Up to five graphic novels at a time.
DVDs 7 days None
  • Up to three DVDs at a time.
  • One volume of a series at a time.
  • Additional days allotted per disc of a series.

Reserves

Can I reserve an individual study room?

Individual study rooms are available on a first come, first served basis and are not available for reservation.

Note: There is one wheelchair accessible study room available. Students with ADA Accommodations that require the accessible individual study room have priority for this room, and those using this room may be asked to leave to accommodate these needs.

How do I place items on hold?

You can request a hold in a few quick steps:

Search the library catalog for the title you want.

Catalog search for the words yellow wallpaper.

Open the book's record and select "Place Hold".

Confirm you have the correct pickup location selected.

What technology is available in the library

Desktop Computers and Laptops

Coastal library has laptops available for checkout at the circulation desk for a 2-hour period. They have the following specs:

  • 15.5" Display
  • Number keypad
  • Microsoft Office
  • VLC Media Place
  • Google Chrome Browser
  • Acrobat Reader

Desktop computers are available in the library’s open study space as well as in the Information Literacy lab, and can be accessed with your Coastal credentials. Members of the public are welcome to utilize desktop computers as well—see a library staff member to get logged in.

Accessibility Devices and Software Available:

  • Large print/High visibility keyboard: LR 208 (Computer in study room 208)
  • Dragon NaturallySpeaking: LR 208
  • JAWS Screen Reader: LR 208, LR 214
  • Lockdown Browser: LR 208, LR 213, LR 214

Printing, Scanning, and Copying

​​​​There is one printer available on the second floor with printing, scanning, and copying capabilities, located along the wall of the Writer’s Center.

  • Copying and scanning can be done from the printer. If you need to print a document, printing must be done from a desktop computer in the library.

There are various types of chargers available for checking out for a 2-hour period including:

Headphones and headsets are available for checkout for a 2-hour period at the circulation desk.

  • Dragon USB Headsets
  • Hamilton Buhl Deluxe Stereo Headphones

Webcams

Coastal has two webcams available for checkout at the circulation desk, both are Logitech Business USB Webcams with the following specs:

  • HD 1080p video
  • H.264 Support
  • Dual omnidirectional microphones with noise-cancelling
  • 78° diagonal field of view
  • HD autofocus
  • Auto light correction

These webcams work with the following programs:

  • Microsoft Teams
  • Skype
  • BlueJeans
  • Webex
  • Fuze
  • Google Meet
  • GoToMeeting
  • Lifesize Cloud

How do I sign up for a library card?

In Person: You can sign up for a library card at the circulation desk by filling out our library applicationbe sure to bring your Coastal ID!

Online: You can jumpstart the process by filling out This Online Application! Note that you still need to visit the circulation desk with your Coastal ID within 7 days to complete your account and receive your library card. If you are online student who lives outside of the area, you can sign up for a library card with this application, then contact us by phone at 910-938-6237 to complete your application and get your library card mailed to you!

Monday–Thursday: 7:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m.  

Fridays: 7:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.  

Saturdays: 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.

Are food and drinks allowed in the library?

Light snacks and beverages with a sealable lid are allowed in the library. To prevent pests and disruptive smells in the library, meals are not permitted on the second floor. We suggest taking meals to the Student Services dining area.

How do I reserve a group study room?

There are multiple ways students can reserve a group study room.

  • Students can sign up for a study room at the circulation desk in the LRC with their student ID. Scheduling can be made up to 1 week in advance.
  • Via our online booking form

Are cellphones allowed in the library?

Cell phones and other electronic devices are allowed in the library, but they must be silenced. Calls must be taken outside of the library.

The library follows the Coastal Carolina Community College policy that outlines cellphone use on campus on Page 44 of the Student Handbook which states: "Any electronic devices that emit audible sound must be switched off or configured for silent operation in classrooms, labs, the library, and appropriate office areas."

If all the computers are taken, can I use the ones in the Information Literacy Lab (LRC 231)?

The Information Literacy Lab (LRC 231) is available for all students to use as long as there is not a class scheduled at that time. Students cannot reserve LRC 231 and other students may utilize the lab as well. Please check the calendar posted by the door and with a library staff member at the circulation desk to ensure there is no class scheduled. If a class is scheduled while you are in the room, you will be asked to leave.

What is a research coach appointment, and how do I schedule one?

If you need help conducting research for a class assignment, or need help finding print resources, then you can schedule a time to sit with a librarian between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Monday--Thursday and 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Fridays. Research help on Saturdays is available on a walk-in basis. You can get research help by Scheduling a Meeting Virtually or In-Person.

  • Study in private study rooms or in one of our study cubicles  
  • Work on one of our desktop computers   
  • Print or make copies  
  • Collaborate with other students in a group study room 
  • Checkout materials such as books and DVDs! 
  • Utilize in-house materials like laptops and course reserves! 
  • Schedule a research coach appointment

How much does it cost to print or make copies?

Students: get 15 pages of printing free a day (front and back counts as One page). After 15 pages it is $0.10 per page.

Non-Students: may print for $0.10 cents per page (front and back counts as One page).

"We used our weekly reservation for a group study room, but my group wants to meet again in the same week, can we still use a room?"

Two or more students who have already used their weekly 2-hour reservation may use a study room on a walk-in basis between 2:00–7:00 p.m. Monday–Thursdays and 2:00 pm–5:00 p.m. on Fridays. However, groups must vacate the room if the staff indicates that another group needs the space

How do I check my item's due date?

To check your item's due date, log into your account in the library's catalog.

Once you are in your account summary page, you can find your current checkouts under the Items Checked Out page

On the Items Checked out page you will find a list of all the items you currently have checked out, as well as how many renewals are left, and what the due date is.

Are children allowed in the library?

The library follows the Coastal Carolina Community College policy that outlines children on campus on Page 44 of the Student Handbook which states: "No visitor, student, faculty member, or employee of the College should bring his/her children or other children with him/her to class or work."

What if I don't know the PIN number for my library account?

If you have forgotten the PIN number for your library account, you can stop by the library's circulation desk and ask a library staff member to reset it for you! You can also reset your library PIN yourself from the library's online catalog log in menu by clicking the "Forgot Your Password?" link.
